The surgeon is pleased with mom's progress. He took out one of her drains, but the other will stay in till next week.
He confirmed that mom's lymph nodes are clear. And we have an official name: Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (IDC). Apparently this is the most common form of breast cancer.
However. She is also HER-2 positive. This is an aggressive form of cancer that is usually treated with chemo, not a hormonal treatment like tamoxifen (which is what we were rooting for).
Obviously we won't know for sure until we visit with her oncologist. The surgeon's office is making that appointment for us.
Ugh. I feel like I got knocked back on my ass today.
Again, ask any questions. It may be something important I forgot to address.
